Pet Portraits · Devon, UK
Pet Portraits
Hand-drawn pencil portraits of the dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals who are part of the family. Every whisker, every grey hair around the muzzle and that look they give you — captured from your own photographs.
I work from a studio in Devon and post finished portraits across the UK, so it doesn't matter where you and your pet live.
How it works
Your Pet's Portrait
Send a few photos
Good daylight and your pet at eye level make the biggest difference. Send a few favourites and I'll help you choose the one that will work best.
Combine photos if needed
If no single photo is quite right, or you'd like two pets together who were never photographed side by side, separate photos can often be combined. You'll see a mock-up before anything is agreed.
Watch it take shape
I send progress photos while I draw, so you can ask for small tweaks along the way — a slightly darker patch of fur, or a collar added or left out.
Delivered with care
Your finished portrait is carefully packaged and posted anywhere in the UK, or can be collected locally in Devon.
Why a hand-drawn pet portrait?
A pencil drawing picks out the things that make your pet yours: the texture of the coat, the shine in their eyes, the ear that never quite stands up. Each portrait is drawn by hand from scratch, so no two are ever the same.
Pet portraits make lovely gifts for birthdays, Christmas, or a new puppy's first year — and many people commission one to remember a pet who has passed away (see memorial portraits). If you'd like to give a portrait as a surprise, gift vouchers are available too.
Pricing is hourly, with three turnaround options: Standard (£15/hour, around 3 weeks), Priority (£22/hour, 7–10 days) and Express (£30/hour, 3–5 days). Once we have agreed size, number of subjects and any background, I can give you an estimate of the hours involved. As a guide, most portraits are drawn on A3 paper: a single person or pet takes around 10 hours (about £150 at the Standard rate) and two subjects around 15 hours (about £225), plus UK postage from £4. A 50% deposit secures your slot.

Questions
What makes a good photo for a pet portrait?
A clear, sharp photo taken in natural light, ideally at your pet's eye level, with the eyes in focus. Photos must be unaltered and free from filters. If your photos aren't ideal, send what you have and I'll let you know honestly what will work.
Can you draw more than one pet, or a pet with a person?
Yes — multiple pets, or pets with their people, are both popular. Separate photos can often be combined into one composition, and you'll approve a mock-up first.
Which animals do you draw?
Dogs and cats most often, but I've also drawn rabbits, a cow and more. If they have a face, get in touch!
